SAIC Motor has announced the appointment of Martin Uhlarik as its new UK Design Director amidst plans to significantly expand its European Design Center at Longbridge, UK. Canadian-born Uhlarik has been appointed by Tony Williams-Kenny, who takes over as Global Design Director at SAIC's Shanghai design base. Uhlarik comes in with experience as Senior Interior Designer for Skoda's Prague studio, Project Design Leader for Nissan Design Europe in London.
New Vauxhall / Opel Astra revealed ahead of a launch at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September
The Astra has been with us for 30 years, and this is the sixth generation to hit the showrooms. And it looks to be the best yet (as you would hope), with a cohesive style and loads of design cues taken from Vauxhall’s Insignia. This new Astra is built on the same platform as the much heralded Vauxhall Ampera (the Electric Car that will be the salvation of GM – once the technology is sorted) and as such offers a bigger wheelbase (up by 71mm) on a 4.4 meter (14′ 4″) body, with a wider track, which should make the Astra a better drive.

The Nissan Hi-Cross Concept is heading for a debut at the Geneva Motor Show, and appears to be a sibling for the Juke and Qashqai – the new 2013 Nissan X-Trail. The photo above is a tease for the Nissan Hi-Cross Concept which is heading for Geneva, and dropped in to our inbox together with information from Nissan on the Hi-Cross.
